Rushing River & Kenora, WE LOVE YOU

Paddling from Thunder Bay towards Manitoba has been a paddle home for us. Sneaking our way slowly towards Winnipeg has been comforting and exciting (yet also hilarious to compare the ten week journey to the 8 hours it took us to drive the same route!!!). As we approach Manitoba we enter familiar territory. We were extatic to enter the Experimental Lakes area, where water is crystal clear and the lakes host some spectacular campsites. We cannot say enough about this area -- you must go and see it yourselves!

We paddled into Rushing River August 7th and spent a memorable evening chatting with fellow paddlers and campers about the Trans Canada Trail and the opportunities available on the Path of the Paddle. We were again in awe of the paddling community and how welcoming everyone was. We greatly appreciate the stories and experiences we got to share with everyone.

Our arrival in Rushing River and paddle in to Kenora was very special to us and felt like an early homecoming. Neither of us have spent a summer in the city for at least the past 10 -12 years and consider the Kenora area our summer home. And the welcoming surely matched our feeling of connectedness to the area. We were welcomed by mayor Canfield at the Kenora Farmer's Market as we paddled in a flotilla including a voyageur canoe paddled by Path of the Paddle board members and canoeing enthusiasts. It was incredible to see the support of the Kenora paddling community. We were overwhelmed when a woman approached us with a bag full of 10 loaves of homemade local bannock which she gifted to us as a token of appreciation for promoting traditional travel by canoe through the area. The amount of generosity and welcoming we have experienced on the Trans Canada Trail has seriously strengthened our appreciation of how the TCT is connecting Canadians. It is truly inspiring to see how much good such diverse and separated people can accomplish together through a common bond. If we all do a little, together we can accomplish a lot!
